CIGS Solar Panel
CIGS solar panels (copper indium gallium selenide) are lightweight, flexible thin-film panels, a practical alternative to traditional rigid panels where weight, shape and available space matter. Our range runs from 80W to 500W and suits [motorhomes, campervans, caravans, boats and curved or uneven surfaces]. All are in stock in the UK with free delivery. Pair your panel with a compatible charge controller to complete the setup.

What Are CIGS Solar Panels?
CIGS panels use a thin layer of copper indium gallium selenide instead of the silicon wafers found in standard rigid panels. This makes them lighter and thinner, and lets them be built in flexible formats.
Where CIGS Panels Work Best
They suit places where a heavy glass-and-aluminium panel isn’t practical, such as camper and caravan roofs, boat decks and curved surfaces.
If you have a flat, strong mounting surface and weight isn’t an issue, a rigid panel may give you better value per watt.
Choosing the Right Wattage
Choose a wattage based on how much power you use and how much roof or deck space you have:
- 80W to 150W: Great for topping up a leisure battery and running low-power equipment.
- 150W to 300W: Regular use in a campervan, caravan, or small boat.
- 300W to 500W: Ideal for higher demand or off-grid use, where space allows.
Panels rarely produce their full rated output in UK conditions, so allow some headroom, especially if you want to charge through winter.
Pairing with a Charge Controller
In most systems, you need a solar charge controller between the panel and the battery. Our MPPT controllers, Victron BlueSolar and SmartSolar ranges cover most setups. Check the panel’s voltage and current against your controller’s limits before ordering.
CIGS Solar Panel FAQs
What does CIGS stand for?
Copper indium gallium selenide, the thin-film material used in the panel’s solar cells.
Are CIGS panels better than rigid panels?
It depends on your needs. CIGS panels are lighter and flexible, which suits curved or weight-limited installations. Rigid panels are generally better value where weight and shape aren’t a concern.
Can I use a CIGS panel on a boat or motorhome?
Yes, subject to your supplier’s installation guidance. Confirm mounting methods and any weather ratings.
Do I need a charge controller?
Yes. It regulates the power going into your battery.
Not Sure Which Solar Panel You Need?
The right panel depends on your application, available space and how you plan to install it. If you need something different from a Victron Solar Panel, see our other ranges:
- Solar trickle chargers for maintaining batteries
- Rigid solar panels, 50W to 550W, for fixed installations
- Flexible and fibreglass panels where weight or shape matters
